Winter is when most Indian homes buy or replace a geyser, and the choice comes down to four things: instant or storage, how many litres, whether the geyser can take the water pressure in your building, and how well the tank stands up to hard water. This guide compares every electric geyser that passes our listing rule, using the makers' own specs.
How we chose. We list geysers rated 4★ or higher on Amazon, with an Amazon "bought in the past month" badge showing at least 100 a month. Right now that is 28 models from AO Smith, V-Guard, Havells, Racold, Orient Electric, Venus, Longway, Crompton and Haier: 10 instant geysers (3–5 litres) and 18 storage geysers (10–25 litres). Electric only: we don't list gas geysers, which can release carbon monoxide in a closed bathroom.

An instant geyser holds only a few litres, so for a bathroom shared by a family a storage geyser of 15 litres or more is the usual choice. Instant models suit kitchens, a second bathroom, or one person who takes quick bucket baths. We go into this in detail in instant vs storage geyser.

What to check before you buy
Pressure rating, if you live in a high-rise. Water pressure rises with the height of water above the tap: flats just below a roof tank get low pressure, but lower floors of a tall building, and homes with a booster pump, can get much more. 17 of the geysers we list are rated for 8 bar; 9 are rated for 6.5 bar, and Orient describes its 6.5 bar instant models as meant for low- and mid-rise buildings. In a high-rise or with a pump, choose 8 bar.
Tank protection, if your water is hard. Hard water leaves scale on the heating element and corrodes the tank. Look for a coated inner tank (glass-lined, enamel or similar) and a magnesium anode, which corrodes in place of the tank and should be checked and replaced every year or two. The Havells Monza Pro and Greta Pro and the Venus Megaplus and Audra are sold as hard-water geysers.
BEE star rating, for storage geysers. A storage geyser loses heat while it sits, and the star rating mostly measures how well it keeps the water hot. 10 of the 14 storage geysers whose listing gives a rating are 5-star. Instant geysers don't carry a star rating.
Warranty on the tank. The tank is the part that fails, so read the tank warranty, not just the product warranty. 8 models in our list give 7 years on the tank, including the AO Smith 25 L, Havells Adonia Spin, Racold Eterno Pro and Haier Precis; most others give 5.
Installation. Some listings include installation (the AO Smith 25 L and Haier Precis say so); others charge for it or leave fittings like pipes and the mounting to you. Ask before you order, and have it wired to a 15/16A socket with proper earthing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which geyser is best for a family of 4?
A 15 litre storage geyser covers most bathrooms for a family of 4 taking bucket baths one after another. Choose 25 litres if you shower, have a bathtub, or several people bathe back to back in the morning.
Is an instant geyser enough for bathing?
For one person taking a quick bucket bath, a 5 litre instant geyser can be enough. For a family bathroom it isn't: it holds only a few litres, so you run out of hot water quickly. Instant geysers suit kitchens and second bathrooms.
How much electricity does a geyser use?
A 2,000 W storage geyser uses 2 units for every hour its element is on, about ₹14–16 at ₹7–8 a unit. Heating a full 15 litre tank from 15°C to 45°C takes about half a unit in theory, roughly ₹4, plus heat lost from the tank. Switch it off when you don't need hot water, and a 5-star tank loses less heat in between.
What does 8 bar mean on a geyser?
It is the highest water pressure the tank is built to take. In most homes 6.5 bar is plenty, but high-rise flats and homes with pressure pumps can exceed it, so choose 8 bar there.
Which brands' geysers do you list?
AO Smith, V-Guard, Havells, Racold, Orient Electric, Venus, Longway, Crompton and Haier, because their models meet our rating and sales bar. Compare all 28 geysers with live prices and filters for instant, storage and size.
