Start with the number of burners and the width of your kitchen slab: 2 burners suit small homes, 3 most families and 4 big families who cook several dishes at once. Then choose the top: toughened glass is easy to wipe, stainless steel can't crack. For Indian cooking, look for at least one large or jumbo burner if you use big pressure cookers and kadhais. Auto ignition saves keeping a lighter, a flame failure device cuts the gas if a flame goes out, and if your home has piped gas, check that the model can be converted to PNG. Warranties range from 1 year to 10, so compare them as closely as the price.
We only list gas stoves rated 4.0★ or higher on Amazon, with at least 100 reviews and an Amazon "bought in the past month" badge showing at least 100 a month, and we recheck them regularly. Most models come in 2-, 3- and 4-burner versions that share one Amazon rating, so we list each once at its best-selling burner count and name the others; where Amazon keeps separate ratings, we list them separately. Burners, ignition, size and warranty come from each model's own listing.
Our Best Overall is the Elica Vetro 703 3-burner glass-top stove (about ₹3,600): it sells 800+ a month on Amazon, is rated 4.1★ by 16,885 buyers and has 2 years on the glass, burners and valves. The Butterfly Smart 2-burner (about ₹2,300) is our Budget Pick and the most-reviewed stove we list; the Butterfly Smart 4-burner (about ₹3,900) is our Best Value and the cheapest 4-burner we list; and the Beyond Dorado hob top, with a flame failure device on every burner, is our Premium Pick.
As a rough rule of thumb (not a maker figure): 2 burners for 1–3 people or a small kitchen, 3 for most families, and 4 if you often cook several dishes at once. Measure your slab first: the 3-burner models we list are about 63–77 cm wide and the 4-burner models about 69–85 cm.
Glass tops are easier to wipe clean and are what most of our list uses; toughened glass ranges from 6 mm (Butterfly, Milton, Preethi) to 8 mm (Everflame Aurum, Blowhot Quartz). Steel tops can't crack if a heavy vessel drops on them. The steel models we list are the Everflame Prime and Sujata Majestic (both 1.2 mm, 4 burners) and the Vidiem Viva (3 burners).
It saves you keeping a lighter by the stove. In our list, auto ignition comes on the Elica Vetro 773 AI (about ₹5,000), the Blowhot Quartz (about ₹12,000) and the two Beyond hob tops. Every other stove we list is manual.
A flame failure device shuts off the gas to a burner if its flame goes out, for example when milk boils over or a draught blows out a low flame. In our list only the Beyond Dorado and Beyond Altair have one, on every burner.
These listings say so: the Beyond Dorado (LPG and PNG compatible), the Elica Vetro 773 AI (conversion at installation), the Milton Premium 3-burner (conversion by authorised technicians), the Sujata Majestic (PNG jet in the box; Sujata charges ₹250 + GST to convert) and the Blowhot Quartz (₹350 to convert). For any other model, ask the brand before buying.
The Blowhot Quartz, at 10 years on the product. The Sujata Majestic's listing says 9 years without saying what it covers, and the Elica Vetro 773 AI has 7 years on the glass. Vidiem (whole product), Preethi, Crompton and Everflame Aurum (glass and burners) and Beyond (glass) give 5 years. The Butterfly Smart stoves have 1 year, and the Milton listings don't state a warranty.
None of their gas stove listings met all three parts of our rule (rated 4★ or higher on Amazon, at least 100 ratings and at least 100 bought a month) when we checked on 12 October 2026. We recheck regularly and will add any that qualify.
