An air fryer earns its place in an Indian kitchen on one question: can it actually crisp a samosa or pakora the way deep-frying does, using a fraction of the oil? Capacity matters more here than almost anywhere else — a 3.5–4L basket suits a couple or small family, while a household of 5+ regularly making batches of pakoras for guests needs 5.5L or more, or you'll be cooking in shifts. Digital presets help with consistency, but a well-designed manual dial model can cost significantly less and still deliver identical results for daily use.
We only list air fryers rated 4.0★ or higher on Amazon, with at least 100 reviews and at least 100 bought in the past month, and we recheck them regularly. Capacity, power, presets, basket coating and warranty come from each model's own listing; where a listing doesn't state a figure, we leave it out rather than estimate it.
The Philips NA120/00 4.2L (about ₹4,850) is our Best Overall: Amazon India's best-selling air fryer (9,000+ bought in September 2026), rated 4.3★ from 6,194 ratings. On a tight budget, the Cookwell 5L with a window costs about ₹3,400. For the highest rating, the Instant Vortex Plus 6L is rated 4.8★ from over 21,000 ratings.
Philips sells the most: its NA120, NA231 and NA130 are the three best-selling air fryers we list. Cosori's CAF-L501 is the most-reviewed (34,860 ratings at 4.6★) and Instant's Vortex Plus the highest rated (4.8★). Under ₹3,500, Cookwell, Milton, iBELL and Inalsa all have well-rated, fast-selling models.
For most households that make snacks often, yes. An air fryer makes samosas, pakoras, tikki and fries with far less oil than deep frying (brands claim up to 75-90% less fat), with no hot kadhai to watch.
About 4-5 litres for a family of 4: the Philips NA120 (4.2L) or Cookwell (5L). For 5 or more, 6L and up: the Philips NA130 (6.2L), American Micronic (6.5L) or, for the biggest baskets, the Philips NA342 and Bosch CrispMaxx (7.2L).
Most draw 1,200-2,000W, similar to a microwave, but only for short sessions. A 1500W model running 20 minutes uses about 0.5 units of electricity, a few rupees at typical tariffs. The smallest we list, the iBELL 3.2L, draws 800W.
Yes: paneer tikka, tandoori chicken, samosas, vada, aloo tikki, kebabs and fries all work. Some models have Indian presets, such as the NUUK BRĪSK (samosa, kebab, tikka) and SOLARA (paneer tikka). Liquid-batter pakoras do not work well; use a thicker batter.
Air fryers are better for everyday snacks (samosas, tikki, fries) and heat up in a few minutes. OTGs are better for baking cakes, breads and pizzas. If you mainly want a healthier frying alternative, choose an air fryer.
Limited capacity, so big families cook in batches; liquid batters drip through the basket; and the basket needs washing after each use. Check whether the basket is dishwasher-safe and what coating it uses before you buy.
