Our Methodology: The Indian Kitchen Score™
The Indian Kitchen Score™is our rating of how well an appliance suits a typical Indian home. It is a research-based judgment, not a lab result: we don't run hands-on tests on the products we review. This page explains exactly what goes into it.
Why a separate score for India?
Indian cooking is demanding. We use heavy masalas, deep fry regularly, deal with hard water in many cities, and face frequent voltage fluctuations. A dishwasher that works perfectly in Europe might struggle with an oily Indian kadhai. So we weigh these conditions far more heavily than international reviews do.
Where our information comes from
- Manufacturer specifications: capacity, wattage, dimensions, programs, BEE star rating and warranty terms.
- Buyer ratings: Amazon star ratings and how many people left them. Every product page shows both, so you can see how much evidence sits behind a rating.
- Live prices: Amazon prices for every product, and Flipkart prices where we can match the exact model, rechecked about once a day.
Where a review quotes a figure such as power consumption or capacity, it comes from the manufacturer or from buyers, not from our own measurements.
The five factors
Every product is rated out of 100 on the same five factors you see in its score breakdown:
Indian Cooking
How well the design suits Indian use: kadhais and pressure cookers in a dishwasher, wet grinding in a mixer, heavy tadka smoke under a chimney, a steady dal simmer on induction. This counts for more than any other factor, because it is what international reviews miss. On water purifiers, refrigerators, washing machines and geysers, where no cooking is involved, the same factor is labelled Indian Home Fit.
Space Efficiency
Whether the size and capacity fit Indian homes, from compact 1BHK kitchens to joint families.
Power Performance
Motor wattage, heating power and capacity against what the category demands, and how the product copes with Indian voltage.
After-Sales Service
How established the brand's service network and warranty are in India. A great machine with poor service is a bad purchase.
Value for Money
What you get for the price compared with direct competitors in the same bracket.
How the overall score works
The overall score is our judgment across the five factors, not a fixed formula. Indian Cooking carries the most weight. Scores are most useful for comparing products in the same category: an 85 for an air fryer and an 85 for a refrigerator aren't measuring the same thing.
Our Commitment to Honesty
Our reviews are independent. We do not accept paid placements or sponsored reviews. We earn a commission from Amazon when you buy through our links; Amazon's rate depends on the product category, not the brand, so we have no reason to favour one brand over another. Our buy buttons lead with Amazon, and when Flipkart is cheaper for the same model, we mark the Flipkart price as the best price.
