Start with the type. An instant geyser (3–5 L, 3000 W) heats a small tank in a few minutes and suits a kitchen sink, a wash basin or a quick bucket bath. A storage geyser (10–25 L, usually 2000 W) heats a bigger tank and keeps it hot, which is what you need for showers or several people bathing one after another. Then check three things that matter in Indian homes: the pressure rating if you live in a high-rise or use a pressure pump (the storage models we list are rated 8 bar; most instant ones 6.5 bar), tank protection if your water is hard (glass-lined or enamel tanks and a magnesium anode), and the BEE star rating, which affects running cost. Installation pipes are often not in the box.
We only list electric geysers rated 4.0★ or higher on Amazon, with at least 100 reviews and an Amazon "bought in the past month" badge showing at least 100 a month, and we recheck them regularly. Most geysers come in several sizes that share one Amazon rating, so we list each model once at its best-selling size and name the other sizes. Pressure, power, BEE rating, tank and warranty come from each model's own listing. We don't list LPG gas geysers.
Our Best Overall is the AO Smith 15L 5-star storage geyser (about ₹6,600): the best-selling storage geyser we list (3,000+ a month), rated 4.3★ by 5,489 Amazon buyers and rated for 8 bar pressure. For a kitchen or small bathroom, the V-Guard Zio 5L instant geyser (about ₹3,600, 4,000+ a month) is our Budget Pick. The V-Guard Divino DG 15L (4.4★ from 12,945 ratings, digital display) is our Best Value, and the Havells Adonia Spin 25L is our Premium Pick for big families.
Instant geysers (3–5 L, 3000 W) heat a small tank quickly and suit kitchen sinks, wash basins and quick bucket baths; in our list they cost about ₹1,800–4,100. Storage geysers (10–25 L) hold more hot water for showers or several people; ours cost about ₹2,900–11,600. If more than one person bathes in the morning, buy storage.
As a rough rule of thumb (not a maker figure): 3–5 L instant for a kitchen, 10 L storage for 1–2 people, 15 L for 2–4 and 25 L for bigger families or a bathtub. Most storage models we list come in 10, 15 and 25 L.
Check the pressure rating. All the storage geysers we list that state one are rated 8 bar (V-Guard says its 8-bar models suit buildings up to 35 floors). Most instant geysers are rated 6.5 bar, and Orient says its 3 L instant models suit low- and mid-rise buildings only.
Look for a glass-lined or enamel-coated tank, a magnesium anode and a corrosion-resistant element. Examples in our list: AO Smith's Blue Diamond glass-lined tanks, Venus' porcelain-enamel tanks with Incoloy 800 elements, Racold's titanium-enamelled tanks, and Havells' Feroglas and Endurashield tanks. Whatever you buy, have the anode checked every year or two in hard-water areas.
Seven years on the inner tank is the longest tank warranty in our list, offered by AO Smith (SDS Green, SGS Green and HAS-X1), Havells Adonia Spin, Racold Eterno Pro and Buono Pro NXG, Haier Precis and Venus Audra. Haier also covers the whole heater for 4 years. Instant models from V-Guard, Racold and Orient carry 5 years on the tank.
LPG gas geysers burn gas inside the bathroom and can release carbon monoxide if the room isn't well ventilated, so we've kept this category to electric geysers. Whichever geyser you buy, have it installed by a technician with proper earthing.
